"Learn to rule your mind, or it will rule you" Anon

There are all sorts of misconceptions and myths surrounding Hypnotherapy that can make it seem mysterious and strange. In reality hypnotherapy simply uses the resources that you already have within you to help you to take control of your life.

Hypnosis or as I call it, trance, is something you already experience regularly – just think of a time when you were so engrossed in a good book or film that you were oblivious to what was going on around you, or the times that you have walked or driven a familiar route only to suddenly arrived at your destination without having noticed how you got there. Trance is a natural state of focussed concentration. One of the most pleasant ways to achieve this state is by relaxation.

Hypnotherapy works by using trance to alter our state of consciousness in such a way that the analytical, conscious part of the brain becomes inhibited while the non-analytical, subconscious part is activated. The subconscious part of the mind contains our imaginations, instincts, emotions and most importantly our permanent memory. By accessing this part of the mind directly we can alter perception and behaviour templates.

For example, the conscious, logical mind of someone who is scared of flying knows that it is the safest way to travel but this does not ease the fear because it is more deeply embedded in the subconscious part of the mind. In hypnotherapy this subconscious is accessed and the templates altered so desirable and long lasting changes in behaviour can be achieved.

Many people do not realise that hypnotherapy is scientific and comes with a huge amount of scientific research. It can be applied to many psychological, emotional and physical disorders such as those listed below.
